For each of the last five years, Barn Arts has worked with the MDI Historical Society to expand its educational program, the Vintage Classroom. This historical reenactment depicts a day in the life of a student in the 19th century by recreating an 1890’s schoolhouse. To produce this year’s event, Barn Arts brought together local and visiting artists to perform for students from across the MDI school district.

​Andrew Simon worked directly with Historical Society staff Raney Bench and Leah Lucey and artists Wendy Littlefield, Brendan O’Keefe, and Ben Moniz to bring to life a number of different characters from the village of Sound. Over the course of a week, the program reached a total of 64 different 3rd grade students from six different local schools, including Swan’s Island.
