Creativity in action
In November, 2020, Barn Arts began conversations with MDES principal Gloria Delsandro and art teacher Shannon Westphal. The discussions were focused on the ways that creativity can lead to mutual understanding and support and how a collaborative project at the school could focus on community activism. |
In the spring, this work was a featured part of the annual MDES Arts Week, which Barn Arts has participated in since 2016. Artistic Director Andrew Simon worked directly with 46 students from MDES, who ranged in age from Kindergarten through 8th grade. The youngest students experimented with character and storytelling while the oldest students wrote letters to school administrators and created a class mural to find new ways to express their collective values. |
