Barn Arts is a non profit organization in the process of confirming our tax exempt 501(c)3 status with the IRS. We provide year-round performance art programs and education to the rural community of Mount Desert Island in Maine. These initiatives include our free Barn Arts Residency Program for artists making new work, providing quality arts performances for audiences of all ages, and serving the local population through arts education workshops.

RESIDENCY SPONSORSHIPS

This year, the Barn Arts Collective is celebrating the 10th year of the Barn Arts Residency Program, which has hosted over 500 artists working on over 150 new works of theatre, music, dance, and film. These artists come from busy urban centers, where finding time and space to make work is costly and difficult. Every residency is free for the artists attending and Barn Arts provides housing and performance space. We offer a stipend for each residency that goes toward the cost of travel to Maine and a first meal on the island, in order to make it easier for visiting professional artists to come and share their work with our community.
We’re looking for Residency Sponsors - individuals, businesses or organizations that would like to make a residency on MDI possible for a team of visiting artists. A Residency Sponsorship includes recognition in the annual program and the pre-show curtain speech, a meet and greet with the artists, and a thank you photo with the performers after the show. SEASON PROGRAM ADS

This year, the Barn Arts Collective will produce over 50 performances of new and original works of theatre by artists from around the country through the free Barn Arts Residency Program. Admission to all of these shows will be by donation and we anticipate a total audience of over 1,000 residents and summer visitors throughout the six months of our summer and fall season. Additionally, our programs will be available at libraries and community centers across the island.
If you’re interested in connecting your business or message with audiences at each of these shows, please consider purchasing an ad in our program. Ads vary in size and rate and all proceeds benefit the work of the Barn Arts Collective - enriching the lives of everyone on MDI through live performance. DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERING
Don't have extra cash? Consider helping out by giving a donation of goods or signing up to volunteer. During the course of our residency season, we are always accepting food donations for the visiting artists. These artists are hard at work making new plays, musicals, dances, albums -- and they never turn down a good meal! You can drop off prepared meals, dry ingredients, or vegetables to the Barn at 130 Tremont Road in Bass Harbor on MDI. Email barnartscollective@gmail.com to arrange a drop off time.
You can also volunteer at the Barn in several ways. Sign up for a front of house shift or contact us at barnartscollective@gmail.com to see what we're currently working on. We can usually use help in cleaning, organizing materials, light construction projects, gardening, and marketing. Let us know your strengths and we'll give you a job to do! We have an organization of regular volunteers and supporters, called Friends of the Barn, that meets occasionally to organize such volunteering. If you are interested in joining Friends of the Barn, please email barnartscollective@gmail.com.
